Transferring contacts from old iPhone to new iPhone

Whether you're an AT&T, Verizon or T-Mobile transferring contacts from your old iPhone to the new one can be frustrating. Good News! There are steps you can take to transfer your contacts. Also, if you are a current iPhone user and don't have your own Apple ID, now would be the time to get one. Sharing the same Apple ID can cause issues with not only transferring old contacts but with receiving phone calls as well.

When sharing an Apple ID between more than one iPhone several issues can occur;

  1.   Software update errors
  2.   Incoming calls will "bounce" from phone to phone
  3.   Transferring contacts from previous phone to new will transfer all contacts from phones sharing same Apple ID.

If you have been sharing an Apple ID for several weeks, months, or years and have done several software updates with no errors but having incoming call issues, visit your local Apple store. Apple will restore iPhone and enter new Apple ID information.

Transferring contacts can be tricky for some over others. When transferring contacts and activating your new device takes several steps;

  1. Turn the device on
  2. Follow the prompts and enter in Apple ID information
  3. Sync device with Apple ID (sync can take several minutes)
  4. Go to iCloud
    1. Settings
    2. General
    3. iCloud
  5.     Login using Apple ID
  6. Sync (2nd option)
  7. All contacts from the old device will transfer to the new device.

You have completed transferring contacts. If you are still confused follow picture tutorial in completing the transfer using the Device How-To Center link provided.
